How to connect One Keyboard and Mouse to Two Computers ?

Assuming the mouse and keyboard are USB, this can be done using a USB switch. The general idea is that you plug the keyboard and mouse into the switch, and you run a single USB cable from the switch to each computer. The switch I used can actually be used with up to 4 computers. You simply press the button corresponding to the computer that you want to be connected to, and then only that computer will see the keyboard and mouse.

There are several variations on this idea, some switches allow only 2 computers, some allow you to switch a printer or other USB device as well as the keyboard and mouse.

There are also switches that handle a monitor connection as well, (KVM switch) and these are significantly more expensive. If you don’t need to switch a monitor connection as well, a USB switch should do it.
